Consent and Introduction of Concepts

What is consent?

One of the central tenets to preventing sexual violence is consent. Consent is something we practice everyday, giving and receiving permission to interact with one another. So, how is consent defined?

Consent is:

  • Clear, voluntary, knowing permission
  • Expressed prior to an action, whether that be sexual or not
  • Active, not passive – silence by itself is not considered giving consent
  • Able to be rescinded at any time
  • Verbal and Non-verbal

Consent, sex, and sexual violence can be difficult topics to discuss, so to help out, we’ve enlisting a group of friends who have been navigating their relationships. We’ll introduce them as we go along.
