If there is an emergency
- Have they acted on their thoughts?
- If so, seek emergency services such as calling 9-1-1 or local mental health crisis centers
- For some minority groups, calling 9-1-1 for them may not be the correct response – consider contacting a crisis line or seeking community support
- Provide reassurance that you are getting help and they are not in trouble
- Does the person have any firearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects on them?
- See if there is a SAFE way to separate the person from those objects
- Is the person alone?
- Stay in contact with them
- ASK for professional help!
- Call 9-1-1
- Go to the local ER
- Call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255
