If there is an emergency

If there is an emergency
  1. Have they acted on their thoughts?
    • If so, seek emergency services such as calling 9-1-1 or local mental health crisis centers
    • For some minority groups, calling 9-1-1 for them may not be the correct response – consider contacting a crisis line or seeking community support
  2. Provide reassurance that you are getting help and they are not in trouble
  3. Does the person have any firearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects on them?
    • See if there is a SAFE way to separate the person from those objects
  4. Is the person alone?
    • Stay in contact with them
  5. ASK for professional help!
    • Call 9-1-1
    • Go to the local ER
    • Call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255
