Wichita State University
Wichita State University’s #WeSupportU Suspenders4Hope campaign was founded on WSU’s campus in 2015 after receiving the SAMHA Campus Suicide Prevention grant. With its reach beyond just the university, the campaign has grown to include online and in-person evidence-based trainings, advocate programs, and additional resources such as Mental Wellness in the Classroom cards.
Suspenders4Hope aims to reduce mental health stigmas and change the conversation around suicide. Inspired by WSU’s Dr. Jessica Provines, the program uses suspenders as a symbol of support. The program supports those experiencing mental health struggles the same way that suspenders might support one’s pants. Whether it’s through learning how to talk about mental health, knowing what resources are available, or talking about your story, Suspendesr4Hope hopes to create positive changes in Wichita and nationally.
